Scone Golf Report: March 11 and 12
By Lyn Banks
On Sunday, March 11, the Scone Golf Club men’s pennant team was up early to travel to Dungog to play Paterson. Unfortunately, the three fourball matches went to Paterson, but the match was close with the pairs of Mick Alsleben and Red Palmer, and Ross Banks and Geoff Ferguson both losing 1 down, however Andy Thrift and George Campbell were well beaten.
This result means that a win against Singleton in the final round at Cypress Lakes on Sunday, March 18 will be required to be a chance of making the finals.
The ladies played Muswellbrook at Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club on Monday, March 12 in round 3 of the Hunter River District pennant. The team was defeated 5 matches to 1 with Lyn Banks managing a close win in the first scratch match. Annie Woods was narrowly beaten 1 down whilst Julie Leckie, Narelle Rutter, Judy Carmody and Noreen Marshall found their opponents too consistent on the day. There is now a break until April 9 when the team will play Singleton at Branxton.
On Thursday, March 15 an 18 Hole Stableford will be played at Muswellbrook for Lyn Banks’ trophy, whilst on March 22 play is scheduled at Aberdeen on for a club trophy.
