It was a busy week for Scone lady golfers with the Hunter River District Golf Association Ladies Championships taking place at Pokolbin, playing at Hunter Valley Resort and Cypress Lakes.

The six intrepid ladies that set off from Scone after firstly wiping the frost of their wind screens  in the early hours of each morning,  included Judy Carmody, Noreen Marshall, Annie Woods, Cheryl Clydsdale, Jodie Hinde and Julie Leckie. Undoubtedly hot coffee and a table full of morning treats were a welcome sight on arrival at the course and took precedence over heading to the practice putting green.

The first day at Hunter Valley Resort was an Individual Stroke, Nett and Stableford event with Annie Woods having a cracking day taking out First Prize in the Division Two Stableford with a great score of 36pts against 40 other players from across the state.  Day Two at Cypress Lakes was the Foursomes Championships with Annie again featuring with playing partner Cheryl Clydsdale,  finishing Nett Runner Up in Division Two.

The final day of the Championships was the hotly contested Inter District Match Play between Hunter River District and the Central Coast, with the 16 lowest handicappers from each district playing scratch match play at Hunter Valley Resort.    From the start Central Coast were odds on favourites to win with all their golfers enjoying lower handicaps with the exception of two matches,  the best of their players from Morisset playing off Plus 3!  Something most of us can only dream of!  However Hunter River District put up a good fight ultimately only going down by two matches, with Scone’s Julie Leckie playing off 13.8 for the HRDGA very happy with her  5&3 win against her Magenta opponent (Central Coast)  on 11.6.

Last Thursday the Scone Lady Golfers played for the Ruby’s Girl Stableford Trophy which was won by Jo Brown with an exceptional score of 39pts, with Narelle Rutter runner up on 38pts. Great scores by both ladies!! Ball Winners were Narelle Rutter, Julie Leckie (34pts) and Cheryl Clydsdale (32pts). Cheryl also won Nearest the Pin and history can now record that she is the first winner of NTP by any lady on the new course. Great job Cheryl! Our sincere thanks to Ruby’s Girl for their generous support of the day.

Also a reminder that our Tuesday social and beginners golf is a regular event on the ladies weekly golf calendar starting at 9.00am.

Saturday’s golf competition attracted a great field of 49 starters in the annual Lindsay Hodge, Les Cottam, Geoff Ferguson and George Campbell Trophy on our fabulous new Scone Golf Course.   This event is always popular, played as a 4 person Ambrose and attracting some adventurous golf shots in an attempt to make par look ordinary.  One Eagle and too many Birdies to count featured on the cards and some big hitting visitors attempted to prove that the new golf course is not long enough, without success!   Winners on the day were Paul and Justin Smart, together with Trevor Wilson and the secret weapon from Ellerston, Rod Hinwood.  Their score of 58.125 was too good for the following groups, both of which scored 60.25.  The countback gave Clayton Rogers, Col Solway, Geoff Barton and Garry Taylor the second place from Annie Woods, David O’Donnell, Neil and Cheryl Clydsdale.

Next Saturday we are playing an individual and 2-Ball 2-Digit Stableford event devised and sponsored by Justin and James Smart.   This is also the third round of the Winter Cup, the leader board is on the website for those who are wondering what it will take to win. The timesheet is at the RSL Reception.

Also our sincere thanks to Alan Wood who is now recording the results for the Scone Thursday and Saturday golf competitions on the Scone Golf Club website.
