Scone Golf Report: Jan 23 and 25
By Lyn Banks
On Saturday, January 25 the Scone golfers played an 18 Hole Stableford for the David Bradshaw and Garry Carter Trophy. It was also Round 2 of the Summer Shield.
In hot and steamy conditions and with the course showing benefits of the recent rain, there were some very good scores in the field of 40 players.
David Bradshaw led the way on his own trophy day with 40 points. Generously the prize for B Grade went to Phil McGuirk who also had 40 points. Jeff Harrington’s 39 points won him A Grade whilst George Davidson won C Grade with 36 points.
Balls went to David Bradshaw, Phil McGuirk 40, Jeff Harrington 39, John Roe, Jake Teague, Mac Dawson 38, Duncan Yuille, Paul Smart 37, Luke Stevens, Tim Smmith, George Davidson, Jock O’Connor, Robert Ryan 36, Harry Mitchell, Tiny O’Neill and Charlie Wintle 35 points on a countback from unlucky Peter Teague and Col Solway!
The NTP’s were won by visitor Brett Reid on the 4th / 13th with a shot to 1.36 metres and by Les Cottam on the 8th / 17th with a shot to 2.20 metres.
In the Summer Shield after two rounds the leaders are Jake Teague, John Roe and George Campbell who are all on 76 points. The event is the best 3 out of 4 rounds so there is a lot of room for movement with the last two rounds being conducted in late February.
The Snyman FB Knockout final was played on Saturday with Jeff Harrington and Tony O’Neill prevailing 1 up in a close match with George Davidson and Harry Mitchell.
On Saturday, February 1 the Scone RSL Group Monthly Mug will be played.
In hot and windy conditions the Scone lady golfers headed out early on Thursday, January 23 to play for the The Buttered Scone voucher. Julie Leckie is making a great start to the season picking up another winners voucher with 19 points. Close behind was Lyn Banks on 18 points to be the ball winner.
Next Thursday, January 30, the ladies will play a 9 Hole Stableford for the Asser House voucher, and this café will also provide an enjoyable catchup for golfers and friends after the game.
In the Wednesday Yellow Tee Challenge competition on January 22, winner Kev Bailey had an outstanding 31 points! He has had his moment in the sun and will be severely handicapped by the organizer. Gary Bailey was the runner up on 24 points.
A reminder that the Annual Presentation Night for men and ladies from the 2019 season, will be held on Saturday February 15 at Scone Sporties.
