Scone Golf Report: Aug 17-19

There were windy conditions again on Thursday, August 17 when the Scone lady golfers played the 7th medal round for a Melanie’s Jewellers Trophy. The winner of the medal was Judy Carmody who had a great 69 nett.

Runner up was Beryl Phelps who has recently returned to the game and she had 71 nett. Balls went to: Sarah Howey 41, Judy Carmody 40, Beryl Phelps 38, Lyn Banks, Sally Archibald and Jo Brown all on 35 points. Lyn Banks also won the NTP on the 17th.

The ladies will play the 8th Medal round on Thursday, August 24 and this will be followed by the Medal of Medals playoff round on August 31 in conjunction with a stableford for Gael Holland’s Trophy.

In the Murrurundi Ladies Open Day held on Saturday, August 19, a good contingent of Scone ladies headed up the valley for the usual enjoyable day. Kerry McLennan and Lyn Banks combined well to win the scratch event with 27 scratch stableford points. Pam Manning and Annie Woods won a ball, Noreen Marshall the straight drive and Jo Brown a NTP.

On Saturday, August 19 the men played an 18 Hole Stableford for Scott Lye and Trevor Wilson’s Trophy. For a change the afternoon players had the better of the conditions. The best score of the day was by trophy donor Scott Lye who had 41 points. David Bradshaw, the C Grade prize winner on 39 points, was the beneficiary of Scott’s generosity in re-donating the prize. 39 points by Andy Phelps won him the B Grade prize whilst the A Grade players were lower on the scores with Sean Constable being the winner on 36 on a countback from Wes Boyd.

John Roe hit a great shot to 0.54 metres on the 2nd / 11th NTP but only gained a jackpot of one ball. On the 8th / 17th Jeff Harrington was the winner at 4.5 metres. Ball winners were: Scott Lye 41, David Bradshaw, Andy Phelps, Jim Elder 39, Lindsay Hodge 38, Brodie Wilson, John Roe, Tony O’Neill 37, Sean Constable, Jim Murray, Wes Boyd, Kevin Thompson 36, and Jeff Harrington 35 points on a countback.

In the Mug of Mugs playoff the winner was Tony O’ Neill who had 71 nett, two better than Rod Spratt on 73 nett.

On Saturday, August 26 the men will play an 18 Hole 2B and individual stableford for Charlie Manning and Noel Kelly’s Trophy and it is the Arthur Shaddock memorial day.
