Scone Golf Report: January 16 and 18
By Lyn Banks
The Scone lady golfers made a return on Thursday January 16 playing a 9 Hole Stableford competition. They played for the Asser House voucher and a three way countback was required to determine the winner. Julie Leckie had 17 points to beat Judy Carmody and Jodie Hinde who both won balls. The ladies had a bit of welcome rain to contend with towards the end of their round but were happy to see some fall on the course. Next Thursday, January 23, they will play for the Buttered Scone voucher and this will also be the social venue after the game.
After heavier downpours during Thursday, play in Saturday’s 18 Hole Stableford became difficult especially in the non-grassed areas, requiring much shoe cleaning. This, and steady light rain throughout the morning, deterred many players with the field being reduced to seventeen players, including four ladies. To make play more difficult all the gullies had water in them, a sight not seen for some time. A Club Trophy was won by Clayton Rogers when he a very good round of 41 points. Balls went to Scott Reid 38, Justin Smart, Julie Leckie 37 and Daryl Dutton 36 points on a countback from James Smart and David Druce.
The NTP’s were won by Scott Reid on the 4th / 13th with a shot to 0.69 metres which also got him a jackpot of three balls! Justin Smart won the 8th / 17th with a shot to 4.77 metres.
The 18 Hole Stableford for the David Bradshaw and Garry Carter Trophy and Round 2 of the Summer Shield were deferred until next Saturday January 25.
The Kevans Knockout has reached the final stage when Duncan Yuille defeated Justin Smart, and Wayne Hedley defeated Tim Smith to progress to the final of this historic event.
The Snyman FB Knockout has also reached the final stage with George Davidson and Harry Mitchell to play Jeff Harrington and Tony O’Neill.
Kerry McLennan played well at the difficult Tuncurry Golf Course in their annual Senior event held on Monday January 13. She had 74 nett to be the runner up in a field of 27.
Membership renewals were due to be paid by December 31. If you renew, or join, by January 21 you will save $50 as fees will increase after that date. As stated in the recent email reminder from the Golf Committee, all members that have not renewed by January 24 will have their memberships terminated and handicap records will be removed. (This means players will not have a live handicap and won’t be able to play in any competitions anywhere at other courses or at Scone.) Members are reminded that membership at Scone Golf Club includes unlimited practice rounds which is certainly an advantage over many other club memberships.
All members are also reminded that the Annual Presentation Night for men and ladies from the season 2019, will be held at Scone Sporties on Saturday, February 15. Further details will be provided shortly.
