Scone Golf: June 6
By Lyn Banks
THE lady golfers at Scone on Thursday, June 2 were treated to a perfect day for golf and the scores reflected such.
Kathy Robinson won her first GNSW and Monthly Medal for the year and collected the Melanie’s Jewellers voucher when she had 71 nett to beat Lyn Banks on a countback.
Balls went to both players and to Fiona Groom who had the best stableford score of 40 points.
The NTP’s on the 8th / 17th were in three divisions and went to Ann Cameron, Narelle Rutter and Annie Woods.
The ladies play the Foursomes Championships over 18 holes on Thursday, June 9 in two divisions.
In this format pairs take alternate hits of the one ball which can be quite a challenging game.
The pairs in Division 1 are evenly matched with Lyn Banks and Jo Brown teaming up, Sue Watts and Ann Cameron combining, and Cheryl Clydsdale and Pam Manning also joining together.
In Division 2 a number of experienced players are teaming up, Kathy Robinson and Doon MacCallum; Narelle Rutter and Judy Carmody; Marie Murray and Liz Kevans whilst Sarah Brooks and Fiona Groom will team together for the first time.
It also could be a close event and all pairs have a good chance in the nett events.
The players will no doubt find the course more difficult after the recent rainfall on the weekend.
On Tuesday and Wednesday five Scone ladies will compete in the two day event at the North / Northwest District tournament at Tamworth.
On Saturday, June 4 the wet conditions meant there was no competition on the day.
Also on Sunday the Masters Pennant match was washed out with a new date hopefully to be allocated.
Next Saturday, June 11 the men will play an 18 Hole Stableford for the Scott Reid Trophy and it will be round 1 of the Winter Cup.
On the Monday of the long weekend a social 9 Hole Ambrose for members and non-members will be played starting at 2pm.
Entries are being called for in the Scone members’ only Holden Scramble on June 18.
Players may nominate as a team of four, or put their name on the sheet on the noticeboard and the committee will attempt to form teams.
It is for men and ladies in any combination.
The junior committee has commenced a five week program of tuition on Friday mornings with Scone Public School students.
Any members who have an hour to spare to assist the group would be welcomed by coordinator Gordon Halliday.
