Scone Golf: June 1 – 4

IN ideal golfing conditions for the start of winter the Scone ladies played an 18 hole stroke / stableford on Thursday, June 1.The winner of the fourth Monthly Medal was Annie Woods who had a fine 67 nett to win her second medal of the year. The runner up was Julie Leckie who had a very good score of 70 nett. Balls went to these players plus Kathy Robinson, Sue Watts 39 and Sarah Brooks 38 points. Julie won the NTP on the 17th and Sue won two balls in the birdie box on the second hole.

In the Peter and Marg Marshall singles knockout matches are up to the semi- final stage, with Lyn Banks to play Julie Leckie and Annie Woods to play Pam Manning.

Next Thursday, June 8 the event will be an 18 hole stableford for Kathy Robinson’s Trophy.

On Saturday, June 3 the men contested the Scone RSL Group Monthly Mug. The winner was George Campbell who had 68 nett, (40 points) being the clear leader on the day. The A Grade prize went to Scott Shann and B Grade to Brad Hockley when they both had 36 points. Balls went to the above players plus Tony O’Neill 36, Ross Banks, Steve Morse, George Betts 35, Phil McGuirk 34 and Col Solway 33 on a countback. The NTP on the 2nd / 11th was won by Steve Morse at 0.75 metres and this was converted to one of his three birdies for the day! The 8th / 17th was won by Tony Pringle at 4.8 metres.

In the ladies 18 hole stableford six players went out in the morning. Yvonne Palmer continued her good form to have 43 points and win the Scone RSL Group prize. Close behind was Julie Leckie who had 41 points to win a ball along with Fiona Groom 39 and Wendy Clift 37.

Next Saturday the men will play an 18 hole stableford for George Betts’ Trophy. It will also be round 2 of the Winter Cup. Members are reminded that the Club Championships for 2017 have been moved earlier in the program and will be played over two weekends on June 17, 18 and 24, 25.

On Sunday, thirteen teams of locals and visitors played in the Holden Scramble. The winners of the four person ambrose were Joel Harrison, Ejaz Hussain, Brendan King and Jake Teague who had 52.625 nett and will now be eligible for the playoff to be held early next year. Second placed prizes were won by John Murray, Greg Parkinson, Craig Symington and Mitchell Wynn with 54.750 nett, and third was won by Judy Carmody, Simon Groom, Kathy Robinson and Clayton Rogers with 57 nett. There was no red tee challenge and it will return on Sunday June 18.

On Sunday, June 11 players are encouraged to support the 9 hole social ambrose. There will be a shotgun start at 2.30pm with team registration at 2pm. This is open to all players whether they have a handicap or not.
