Scone Golf: July 7 – 10
By Lyn Banks
SCONE Golf Course was well sodden and with water laden hazards after the rain on Friday.
The nominal run didn’t affect the winners on Saturday July 9 in the men’s stableford competition for the Geoff Barton and Gary Taylor Trophy.
The early players returned the best scores with Tony O’Neill having the highest score of the day of 40 points, which allowed him to win B Grade.
Adam Brayshaw continued to play good golf with 38 points to win A Grade.
Gary Taylor generously re-donated his C Grade prize to visitor Pat Maher who had 35 points.
In the NTP’s Phil McGuirk won the 2nd / 11th at 1.70 metres and Pat Maher rounded off a good day to win the 8th / 17th at 3.51 metres.
The ball winners were: Tony O’Neill 40, Scott Shann 39, Adam Brayshaw 38, Gary Taylor, Glen Tarrant 37, Tim Smith 36, Jeff Harrington, Pat Maher, Warren Styles 35, Wayne Hedley 33, Adam Moore and Trevor Wilson 32.
It was also Round 1 of the R. J. Lowrie Cup and a number of players made a good start to the two round event.
In the ladies 18 Hole Stableford, Kerry McLennan was the winner with a very good 34 points in the soggy conditions.
Kerry continues to progressively lower her handicap.
Eleven Scone players supported Murrurundi men’s Open Day on Sunday, July 10.
As usual a good day was had by all in perfect weather, however the course had no run and scoring well was difficult.
Well done to Adam Russell who won the C Grade Stableford and the long drive in his grade.
Players who are still in the Kevans Knockout need to play their round 4 matches by August 6.
On Saturday, July 16 a new concept of a 2 Ball 2 Digit Stableford will be played, with an individual in conjunction.
Trophy donors James and Justin Smart, and many others, will be interested to see the score required to win.
It was an overcast day last Thursday at Scone with some moisture in the air prior to play.
A small, school holiday affected field of lady golfers, completed their round without any rain.
The course was well prepared and Julie Leckie played consistently to have 75 nett and win the fifth Golf NSW and Monthly Medal, and the Melanie’s Jewellers Trophy.
Lyn Banks was narrowly behind and balls were distributed on stableford points to Julie 34, Lyn 33 and Annie Woods 32.
Lyn also won the NTP on the 2nd /11th with a shot to 3.16 metres.
On Thursday, July 14, the ladies will play an 18 Hole Stableford for the Sally Archibald Trophy.
On Friday eight ladies will be on the road supporting Hawks Nest for their Open Day.
The Scone ladies will be contesting the Club Championships in three divisions on August 11, 14 and 18 with nominations currently being called for.
