Scone Golf Report: Jan 19 – 21
By Lyn Banks
ON a cooler morning at Scone Golf Course, ten lady golfers played the front 9 for the Asser House prize on Thursday, January 19.
The course was tougher after the storm and rain on Wednesday night which also cancelled the Red Tee Challenge comp.
The winner was Lyn Banks who had 17 points and balls went to Kathy Robinson 16, Judy Carmody 15, Wendy Clift, Joan Shaw 14 and Doon MacCallum 13 on a countback. On Thursday February 2, play will be on the back nine for the Royal Hotel Café prize.
On Saturday January 21 the ladies field was boosted by visitor Sharon Constable and she was the winner of the 18 Hole Stableford, on a countback from Wendy Clift, when they both had goods scores of 37 points.
Wendy won a ball along with Julie Leckie 32 and Vonnie Palmer 31 points.
The men played the annual 2 Man Ambrose event for the NAGA Cup and Red Palmer and Neil Clydsdale Trophy.
The NAGA Cup nett winners were the morning players Duncan Yuille and Stuart Sheldrake who had 62 & ½.
Second place went to Paul Smart and Justin Smart on 63 and ¾.
The Mug winners were Alan Wood and Steve Morse 72 and ½ on a countback.
Joel Woods won the NTP on the 2nd / 11th with a shot to 1.63 metres whilst Mick Alsleben won the 8th / 17th with 2.27 metres.
Ball winners were: Duncan Yuille & Stuart Sheldrake 62 & ½; Paul Smart & Justin Smart 63 & ¾; Sean Constable & Brad Hockley 64 & ¼; George Davidson & Mick Alsleben 65; Neil Clydsdale & Will O’Donnell 65; Joel Woods & David Adams 65; John Murray & Jim Elder 67 & ¼ on a countback.
All members should be appreciative of the efforts of approximately 20 hard workers and one loafing dog, at the working bee last Sunday.
A huge amount of tidying up and maintenance was done on the course, and all those who turned up with chainsaws, trailers, utes, tractor, whipper snippers, rakes, weeding utensils, sprays and the like should be proud of their results.
A reminder that on Australia Day a 9 Hole 4 Person Social Ambrose will be held with a 2pm for 2.30pm shot gun start.
This is open to members and non- members and players can just turn up on the day.
On Saturday, January 28 the men will play an 18 Hole Stableford for the Kevin Bailey Building Trophy and it will also be Round 2 of the Summer Shield.
