Scone Golf: Feb 18
By Lyn Banks
ON Thursday, February 18 at Scone Golf Course the ladies started their 18 hole season. A very good field of 14 players turned out for the Scone Sporties Trophy on a well prepared course.
The early start negated any excessive heat and the scores were quite good. Catherine Russell commenced her season very well with an encouraging 40 points for the relatively new golfer. Likewise, Sheena Carter was happy to be runner up on 36 points beating Narelle Rutter on a countback.
Balls went to the above players plus Jo Brown 35, Ruth Wallace 34 and Marie Murray 34 on a countback from Noreen Marshall. It was good to see Sue Watts return to golf after most of last season off after knee surgery. Kathy Robinson won the NTP on the 17th at 5.3 metres.
In the weekly ladies 9’s Enough competition Pam Manning was the first winner with 16 points.
Next Thursday, February 25, the ladies will be bright and colourful for the “Colours On The Course” theme when they play an 18 Hole Stableford for the Lyn Banks Trophy.
On Wednesday, February 17, the popular 9 hole competition from the red tees had a great turn out with the new golfers dominating the prizes. 1st was Gary Bailey on 28 points, 2nd was Reagan Murray 26 points and 3rd was Dan Buckney on 24 points to win on a countback from Ross Banks.
This Saturday the men play an 18 Hole Individual and 2B Worst Ball Stableford for the Jeff Harrington and Tony O’Neill Trophy, and the ladies play an 18 Hole Stableford. In the third round of the A Grade Hunter River District Pennant on Sunday, Scone coming off a victory will travel to The Vintage to play Singleton. Interestingly the competition so far has no team having two wins.
