Scarey Times in Murrurundi
By Des Dugan
It was a scary morning on Friday morning in Murrurundi as the scarecrows made their way across the Murrurundi Public School grounds.
It was Friday Open Day and about 150 people sat under the shade of the playground shed and listened to the kids recite and learned the winners of the school competition.
Out in the yard clothes rustled in the breeze and fixed smiles wavered.
There stood 69 objects designed to put the fear of God into any magpie, crow or myna bird looking for a free feed.
However, what happens when the sun goes down is a factor of the imagination?
This was Murrurundi school’s third scarecrow competition whose scarey things are bound to get scattered around the town in various windows and yards but for this weekend, they will stay behind the fence at the school in Mayne Street — designed to guard the school and warn off any weekend batty visitors!
