Rolling Rail Strikes
NEXT week there will be another 72 hour strike by rail workers resulting in further disruption to passenger services.
The Unions announced their decision to have stoppages beginning on Wednesday, August 17 and lasting 72 hours as leverage in their enterprise bargaining agreement process with the Australian Rail Track Corporation.
John Fullerton, chief executive officer of the Australian Rail Track Corporation said the ongoing stoppages are likely to cost the New South Wales economy more than $50 million.
“We are now looking at three weeks of direct damage and months if not years of cumulative damage to the rail industry,” said Mr Fullerton.
“Even more concerning is that the Unions are committed to damaging the rail industry for an indefinite period of time with a baseless fear campaign as their justification,” Mr Fullerton said.
Passenger rail services in the Upper Hunter will be replaced by bus services.
All passengers are advised to check the Transport NSW website before travelling: www.transportnsw.info.
