RFS Caution for Harvesting
The New South Wales Rural Fire Service and New South Wales Farmers are cautioning landowners to plan harvesting to prevent bush fires.
The organisations have developed voluntary grain harvesting guide to help farmers decide when it is safest to harvest.
The guide was trialed last fire season and is now being rolled out across the state.
If conditions are considered as unsafe to harvest the NSW Rural Fire Service may issue a harvest safety alert, which require harvesting operations to stop and assess weather conditions against the guide, before deciding to continue.
The assessment is made by local NSW RFS volunteers, farmers and harvesters.
