Council Reduce Race Club Water Rates
LAST night Council voted to reduce the water rates for the Scone Race Club from $2.35 to $0.96 per kilolitre for one year.
Cr Sue Abbott said she strongly objected to the motion for a Club which was profitable, compared to other local clubs which were not as well funded and still had to pay full water rates.
Cr Ron Campbell said he understood how much value the Scone Race Club brings to the town and agreed with the motion.
Cr Lorna Driscoll said she would be undertaking some water divining at the race course and was hopeful another water source could be found and reduce the amount of town water the race course needed to use.
Mayor Wayne Bedggood declared a conflict of interest and abstained from voting, Cr Abbott and Cr Watts voted against the motion, all other Councillors voted for the rate reduction and the motion was passed.
The amendment to Council’s policy, to reduce the water rates for Scone Race Club have a period of community consultation and residents can have their say on until December 24. Read more: Council Asks: Should We Reduce Water Rates for Racing?
