Break Out the Popcorn and the Sparkles
THE Scone Film Festival is now the longest running film festival in the Hunter, outlasting many others and offering exclusively Australian short films and set to screen it’s 11th program on Saturday night.
Catherine Bolton, president of the Scone Film Festival is excited about opening night on Saturday and the array of great short films coming to Scone.
“We’ve basically got the ten best films that we could lay our hands on,” said Ms Bolton.
“One exciting thing is the animation we have has been nominated for an AACTA Award which is the Australian equivalent of a the Oscars, which has been announced since we chose the film,” she said.
“The closing film was nominated for a Crystal Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, so we really have a quality program,” she said.
“You won’t see them unless you got o a film festival and we are making it accessible to people in Scone, but it’s a chance to get out, see films you wouldn’t ordinarily see, meet some of the people involved in making them and a great social night out,” said
“Some people dress up and some dress down, just like a regular film festival, some come in sparkly gear or dress comfortably, whatever people prefer,” Catherin Bolton said.
Guests at this year’s festival include:
- Producer, Director and Designer, Ruby Challenger, will represent her film which is based on part of her grandmother’s life.
- John Cavallaro director, producer and writer, Craig Rutherford co-writer, and actress Sarah Thamin will represent their Tropfest finalist film.
Actors in films to be screened include:Urzila Carlson, David James, Brent Hill and Andy Lee.
- When: 6:30pm, doors open. 7:30pm – 9:15pm program of 10 short films followed by a short Q&A and coffee and dessert.
