EMBERS AT BURNING MOUNTAIN
POLICE observed a lit cigarette being thrown out the window of a vehicle on the New England Highway near Burning Mountain on Saturday.
Police followed the vehicle which was travelling at speeds between 120 and 130 kilometres an hour and the driver did not slow down as it passed through the township of Wingen which has a speed limit of 80 kilometres an hour.
When police pulled the vehicle over the driver claimed not to notice the 80 km/hr speed signs.
The driver was issued a fine for speeeding of $455 and lots 4 points from their licence.
The passenger was issued a fine of $250 for deposit litter – lite cigarette.
SPEEDING
ALSO on Saturday, police observed a vehicle travelling in excess of 150 kilometres an hour on the New England Highway near the Kankool weight station outside Willow Tree.
The vehicle slowed to drive through the township, but as the vehicle passed the Willow Tree truck stop it crossed the centre double unbroken lines whilst negotiating a slight right hand bend.
Police activated their warning devices and pulled the vehicle over.
The driver admitted to travelling at more than 140 kilometres an hour and was issued an infringement notice of $872, lost five points off their licence and was also fined $325 for not keep left of dividing line and lost three points.
