Police Update: April 26
IGA Merriwa Break In
YESTERDAY between 3am and 5am the front glass door of the Merriwa IGA was broken and cigarettes were stolen.
Drug Possession
ON Saturday at approximately 2:05pm a 40 year old male from New Lambton was driving a blue ford falcon ute east on the Golden Highway at Merriwa when police stopped him for a random breath test, which returned a negative result.
After conducting a criminal history check police conducted a frisk search of the driver and found a resealable bag approximately 120mm x 160mm which contained green vegetable matter and the driver said it was cannabis.
The driver was issued with a court attendance notice (CAN) for Scone court on June 23.
Car Accident on Gundy Road
YESTERDAY at approximately 1pm a motorbike rider had an accident on Gundy Road, approximately four kilometres out of Scone.
The male rider was a 50 year old from East Maitland, was travelling with two other motorcyclists when the rider appears to have entered loose gravel, lost traction and slid towards the northern shoulder.
The rider has braked heavily and the rear wheel has locked.
The bike travelled down a steep bank where the bike slid out of control and fell onto its rights side, the bike has ‘high sided’ the rider catapulting him off the bike.
The bike has tumbled before landing on its right side.
The rider suffered pain in his left shoulder, ribs and arm and was taken to Scone hospital, his condition is stable.
Shooting Incident
ON Sunday at approximately 10.45pm on a property on Summer Hill Road, Turill a 49 year old male sustained head injuries from shrapnel, while hunting.
The man was driving a ute, with his son in the passenger seat and two males standing on the rear tray of the vehicle who were shooting kangaroos.
The vehicle was stopped slightly downhill when one of the males on the tray, a 34 year old from Oxley park, lined up a roo in the sights of the firearm with the rifle butt resting on a bar across the rear of the top of the vehicle cabin.
When he fired the shotit has gone down into the cabin of the vehicle narrowly missing the head of the driver and exited through the windscreen, with shrapnel causing injury to the driver and profuse beelding from the head.
An ambulance attended and the man was taken to Orange Base Hospital.
The injuries were not considered life threatening.
Low Range Drink Driving
AT approximately 6pm while condutcing random breath testing on Kelly Street, Scone the supervisor of a learner driver was subjected to a breath test and returned a positive reading.
The supervisor was a 47 year old female from Scone.
In fairness to the accused and to remove the possibility that alcohol remaining in her mouth could affect the reading she was asked to remain at the location for 15 minutes before being retested.
At approximately 6:12pm another breath test was conducted and a positive readin was again returned.
The accused was arrested and conveyed to Scone Police Station for the purpose of a breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.077 grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath.
