Pfizer vaccine soon available closer to home
THE government have announced they will launch their second mass vaccination hub for covid-19 at Belmont in mid-July, bringing the first opportunity of receiving the Pfizer vaccine to the area.
The clinic will be located in a former Bunnings warehouse, staffed by 150 health care workers who will be available to administer 20,000 vaccines, each week to Hunter residents.
To date, only the AstraZenca vaccine has been available in clinics throughout the Hunter, but the new hub will offer the Pfizer vaccines to people in the area who are eligible.
Michael DiRienzo, Chief Executive of the Hunter New England Local Health District said he was delighted to have the state’s second mass vaccination centre in the Hunter.
“It is no small task to transform an empty warehouse into a vaccination centre capable of inoculating thousands every day. It’s a great service you’re doing for our community.”
Brad Hazzard, New South Wales Minister for Health, said the Hunter New England area had been outstanding for covid testing and was confident the community would take up the opportunity to be vaccinated.
“The Newcastle community and indeed everyone across the Hunter New England Local Health District has been outstanding in presenting for COVID testing to help keep their loved ones safe,” Mr Hazzard said.
“More than half a million people to date have fronted for testing, so I am confident the community will register online to get vaccinated at this new centre, or with their GP, and encourage others to do the same.”
