Ollie Makes the Grand Final
OLLIE Schumaker from St Mary’s primary school played for the Polding area representative team who made it to the grand final last week of the Primary Schools Sporting Assocciation’s state touch football carnival held in Wagga Wagga.
There are 13 teams in the state covering all schools with Polding being one of two catholic school teams in the carnival.
Polding played 14 games during the week but lost the grand final to Sydney North in a close game with the final score being two- nil, the girls polding team also came up against North Sydney in the grand final losing one-nil.
Ollies mum Nicky Western was at the carnival to watch the boys and commended their effort to reach that level.
“They played six games on Tuesday in Wagga, four games on the Wednesday, two games on Thursday, they drew one, lost one and won all the rest,” Nicky Western said.
“In the semi finals they came up against Hunter and they beat them three -nil, in the final they came up against Sydney North who had beaten them previously in the rounds and they lost two-nil.
“Four boys got selected into the New South Wales squad to compete at the Pacific touch football games in December at Adelaide.
“Ollie is in year 6, the other Scone boys didn’t get past the diocese level so we were there on our own.
“It was a big week, they had training on Sunday and Monday so we had a whole week in Wagga and then played fourteen games, it was a massive effort.
“The girls grand final was also Polding against Sydney North but we didn’t have any Scone girls in the team and they lost one-nil,” said Nicky Western.
