O’Connell lashes out at Layzell
INDEPENDENT candidate Kirsty O’Connell has questioned Nationals candidate David Layzell’s ability to provide strong representation for the Upper Hunter, saying Deputy Premier John Barilaro has led him around the electorate like a prize calf.
Ms O’Connell said an article published by the Daily Telegraph has “revealed the full extent of John Barilaro’s control over Mr Layzell.”
“Today’s Daily Telegraph article claims that John Barilaro has controlled every announcement, has personally written his own press releases and has micro-managed every aspect of Dave Layzell’s campaign,” Ms O’Connell said.
“It’s clear who is calling the shots, so how can Mr Layzell claim to offer strong representation for the people of the Upper Hunter?” she questioned.
“He’s basically been led around the electorate like John Barilaro’s prize calf, not trusted to think or speak for himself,” she said.
Ms O’Connell said this Saturday, the Upper Hunter community will decide who they trust to represent them through a period of extraordinary change.
“Let’s not forget why we’re having this costly by-election . . . I’d encourage them to vote for a candidate who has a track record if speaking out in their interests, not cow-towing to party politics. I’ve been doing that for years,” said Ms O’Connell.
