Update: Newcastle and Hunter covid cases

OF the 478 cases identified in NSW overnight, 16 were in the Hunter New England Local Health area.

There have been a total of 120 confirmed cases in the region since August 5.

The 16 new cases include:

• 2 associated with aged care facilities;
• 11 are family or household contacts and linked to previous cases;
• 3 are still under investigation;
• 8 are in the Maitland LGA;
• 5 are in the Newcastle LGA;
• 2 are in the Lake Macquarie LGA;
• 1 is in the Port Stephens LGA and
• 6 were infectious while in the community, 1 is still under investigation and the remaining 9 were in isolation throughout their infectious period.

The health district is contacting all close contacts of confirmed cases and directing them to be tested and self-isolate for the full 14 days, regardless of any initial test results.
