Permier: “Most concerning day we have seen”
A record 466 locally acquired cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the past 24 hours and four deaths, prompting Premier Gladys Berejiklian to describe it as the “most concerning day we have seen.”
There were an additional 26 new cases identified in western NSW around Dubbo, with more areas in the west expected to go into lock down later today.
There were an additional 16 cases in the Newcastle and Hunter region identified.
Pleasingly there have been no confirmed cases in Armidale, Tamworth or the Northern Rivers area, however, Armidale may go into an extended lock down to ensure there are no undetected cases.
The virus has been detected in the sewerage networks of Broken Hill, Ballina and Brooklyn. Residents in those areas are encouraged to come forward for testing to help identify any possible cases or chains of transmission.
There are now 378 people in hospital due to Covid-19, of whom 64 are in intensive care and 29 are being ventilated. Of the people in intensive care 4 are in their 20s, 6 are in their 30s and 7 are in their 40s.
The government have also announced police operation: Stay at Home.
