More money pouring into Murrurundi
MURRURUNDI’S Wilson Memorial Oval upgrade and Memorial Gates restoration projects will receive a further $235,000 and $150,000 respectively in Government funding.
The Memorial Gates have become structurally unsound and need repairing, with works expected to commence in March and finish mid-year.
Wilson Memorial Oval upgrades began last year in December and are being carried out by local builder, Matthew Clarke.
A further $230,434 will also be used to replace kerbing and guttering on the east side of Mayne Street between Boyd and Murulla streets.
Member for New England Barnaby Joyce, said the additional project funding provided by the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Fund will support local jobs and businesses during COVID-19.
“This funding will assist in the interior fit out of the Oval’s main building, landscaping, electrical supply and additional spectator seating,” Mr Joyce said.
“Remedial work involves deconstructing the historic memorial, replacing the foundation and rebuilding the memorial and path using as much of the original sandstone material as possible,” he said.
“Not only are these projects supporting local jobs, construction businesses and general economic growth, the new assets will deliver a better standard of living for you and your family.”
Progress is also being made on the $250,000 upgrade of Murrurundi’s Rosedale Equine Complex canteen, which has been funded by the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program.
“Demolition works are already done and it is expected the new building and internal fit out will be complete by April, allowing ample lead in time for the 2021 King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge in September,” Mr Joyce said.
