Update: Meads Creek Fire – Sunday
THE Meads Creek fire continues to be contained, but fire crews are concerned about wind conditions changing that situation at any time.
Aircraft are currently prevented from assisting ground crews, due to the heavy smoke from the fire.
Brigades were focused on the northern edge of the fire overnight and are continuing to consolidate containment lines in that area.
Crews are actively containing the fire with bulldozers and earth moving equipment, with the final line to connect all of the containment lines together, now 60 percent complete.
While there is no threat to properties at the moment, residents in the Tunbridge Road, Possum Springs Road, Flight Springs Road area are urged to stay vigilant in watching for any embers and ready to act.
Fire crews continue to observe the fire is self-extinguishing when reaching paddocks, one small mercy of the drought.
While the fire is largely contained, it is still described as “burning fiercely” in the centre of the fire ground and there is the continued risk of winds carrying the fire past containment lines.
Tomorrow, fairly similar conditions are expected and crews are not as concerned about predicted high temperatures, as they are about low humidity and winds.
If residents feel threatened by the fire they should phone 000 immediately, not a neighbour or friend.
