Plans to reinvigorate public assets and transport
ONE Nation candidate Dale McNamara said if elected, he will fight for a daily return ‘commuter train’ from Tamworth to Newcastle, with hopes to entice more people to move to Quirindi.
“We recently met with the Mayor of The Liverpool Plains Shire Council, Councillor Doug Hawkins OAM and the General Manager Ms Joanne Sangster. We were struck by their passion for the LGA. Of particular note for us was their desire to see more people move to the Liverpool Plains,” Mr McNamara said.
“To assist them in this venture we believe that a daily, return, commuter train between Tamworth and Newcastle will provide a great opportunity for people to choose Quirindi as their new home town knowing that they have access to all the services and places of work and study that they may require,” he said.
Mr McNamara said One Nation will also see that Council receives the $12 million required to upgrade the Quirindi and Werris Creek swimming pool complexes, as well as help, implement Council’s (LPSC) long-term vision, known as the Regional Water Supply Strategy.
The Strategy includes securing the Werris Creek water supply and providing options for the management of the Quirindi water supply by constructing a state-of-the-art water treatment plant near Quipolly Dam and a pipeline connecting Werris Creek and Quirindi.
The Liverpool Plains Shire Council has worked closely with the Federal and State Governments to attract funding to around $20 million for this project however, there is a $5 million funding shortfall.
“Why is Quirindi being shortchanged again with regard to their water? It’s not good enough. One Nation will ensure that the people of Quirindi have the same access to a clean and secure water supply as those in Sydney do. We will ensure that the $5 million shortfall is met and funded,” Mr McNamara said.
“We also learnt that the Quirindi swimming pool complex was dated and no longer fit for purpose. In regional towns, council swimming pools are a central location for sport and recreation. They also provide a place of respite in the hot summer months, particularly for those who can’t afford the luxury of air conditioning,” he said.
Liverpool Plains Shire Council Mayor, Cr. Doug Hawkins OAM said he has met with most of the candidates in the upcoming by-election and given them equal time.
“I have presented them with a list of what I believe we need to make the Liverpool Plains a better place to live. I thank the candidate for One Nation, Mr Dale McNamara, for his time,” Cr Hawkins said.
“One Nation stands with the people of Quirindi and will fight to see that their town gets the services, road funding, and facilities that they deserve,” said Dale McNamara.
