Mayor Calls for Calm and Respect
The Upper Hunter Shire Council Mayor, Wayne Bedggood has urged residents to remain calm, respect decisions made by all levels of government and be assured the safety and well being of the Shire is their utmost priority.
“COVID-19 presents many challenges and with it changes to the way in which we live, work and interact with one another,” said Mayor Bedggood.
“Most of you are aware we have had to cancel many events and community gatherings that have been planned over the coming months, some having been an annual event for as long as we can remember,” he said.
“This is the start of a lot of tough decisions and measures that will need to be made to reduce the spread of the virus and maintain the health of our Shire,” he said.
“We ask you to respect the decisions made by governments at the local, state and federal levels, many of which are made with a greater knowledge and understanding of the full impact of the virus,” Mayor Wayne Bedggood said.
The Mayor stressed the importance of coming together as a community and to consider others.
Council has cancelled several events this week and compiled information on the coronavirus on their website.
