Madden Becomes A Knight
SCONE boy Jock Madden was told last night he had a guernsey to play in the Newcastle Knight’s under 16’s team.
His mother Judy Madden, said Jock and the family were relieved that he had made the team, as he had been training hard to reach his goal.
“He is very excited and very relieved that he made it,” said Mrs Judy Madden.
“Poppy Madden would be very proud and have his chest out,” she laughed.
“He has been training since October for three nights a week in Newcastle and that will continue; they’re doing trial games at the moment with the competition starting in February and going through until Easter, against the other Sydney NRL teams.
“We are relieved for him because we know how much it means to him and now he is training for a reason, his purpose has been fulfilled.
Jock Madden is a student at St Joseph’s High School in Aberdeen and Judy said he enjoys going to the school because they have a great football programme.
“He’s only ever played for Scone, the Scone Thoroughbreds, he started when he was ten and he’s always played with the school,” she said.
“He’s very grateful that he goes to St Joey’s because they’ve got a good football team, his school football has helped him a lot.
“He absolutely loves football, sport and fitness and now he will just enjoy this season and see how he goes,” said Judy Madden.
Jock is the first cousin of Wallaby and Sconeite Nick White, who is currently playing for Montpellier in the French competition.
Three other St Joseph’s students from Muswellbrook have also made the team and another two are awaiting a decision.
