There is a diverse range of camping locations across the Upper Hunter, from caravan parks in local towns to the camp sites located inside or surrounding the Barrington Tops National Park, Lake Glenbawn State Park, state forests and other stunning natural attractions.

Popular camp sites can be found in:

Barrington Tops National Park, 70km from Scone, with sub-alpine scenery and vegetation, world heritage rainforests and breathtaking lookouts. There are many activities including car touring, 4WD touring, walking, mountain biking and fishing.

Barrington Tops State Forest, 105km from Scone, is another stunning location with activities including 4WD touring, horse riding, walking, fishing and mountain biking.

Stewarts Brook State Forest, 70km from Scone, is on the western boundary of Barrington Tops National Park and is suitable for 4WD touring and bushwalking.

Lake Glenbawn State Park, 20km east of Scone, is a popular destination for watersports and fishing. There is a caravan park as well as camping areas suitable for open fires and dogs.

Moonan Brook, 55km north-east of Scone, has a self-contained cottage as well as grounds outside for camping.

Moonan Flat, 50km north-east of Scone, is located on the banks of the Hunter River and is suitable for fishing and swimming.

Towarri National Park, 20km north-west of Scone, is home to the popular Washpools camping area which includes swimming, walking and open fires.
