Line Up for Literary Long Weekend
BAD language will no doubt be thrown around by guest author Don Watson at the Scone Literary Long Weekend in November, but at least it will be to illustrate how to combat the scourge of weasel words in modern language including offensive terms such as stakeholder engagement, bendable learnings, aligning objectives, leveraging strategic plans and other such rubbish.
Other notable authors lined up for this year’s festival include Hugh Mackay, Phillip Adams, Leonie Rogers, Courtney Collins, Tracie Lark, Cate Kennedy, Jo Riccioni, Karen Crofts, Kirrili Lonegran, Katrina McKelvey and Terry Smith.
Anne Davies, president of the Scone Literary Long Weekend Committee said they were thrilled to have such high profile authors.
“It is only the third year, so it is a fledgling festival and there is a lot of hard work, but we are thrilled with this calibre of authors,” said Ms Davies.
“We usually have 80 or 90 people attend, which is a good size in the Arts and Crafts building,” she said.
“This year we have moved it to November rather than the October long weekend when so many people are busy, but it is still a long weekend because we have activities on the Friday and it has been important for us to keep it a literary festival, rather than a writers festival or readers festival, this way we encompass everyone it’s about maintaining the page,” she said.
“The weekend will be filled with literary pursuits as well as a wonderful soiree in the gardens of the Scone Arts and Crafts on the Saturday night so there will be something for everyone,” Anne Davies said.
WHEN: Friday, November 4 – Sunday, November 6.
