Land Purchased for Overpass
THE Upper Hunter Shire Council has purchased land at 2912 Kelly Street, just south of the industrial area of Scone, in the hope of building a rail overpass to link the old industrial area with the meat works and sale yards to the new area and the bypass.
In a statement issued by the Council they said, “there has long been agreement that both a rail overpass and road bypass were needed in Scone, in order to minimise heavy traffic in the CBD and ensure emergency services could access all parts of the town in the event of rail crossings being blocked.”
The Council further stated they are investigating an “intelligent transport system (ITS) to inform emergency services of train movements, so first responders from paramedics to police, will be able to choose either the bypass or the overpass as the fastest route across town.”
Council will seek state government funding for the overpass in the industrial area.
