Lances and Swords Abound
THE Australian Tent Pegging Association is holding a round of its’ national championship at Scone this weekend.
Tent pegging originally came from India and was later utilised by the British as practice for mounted warfare, whereby the tent pegs were removed from the enemy’s tents during a raid causing them to collapse.
Riders today gallop and must pierce a peg with either a lance or a sword and present it on the weapon to obtain points.
Teams have come from far and wide to compete, Adam Rowland and his team are fresh from being crowned champions at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and are in Scone competing this weekend.
“We won the Sydney show, this is part of the Australian Championships and we are going to Queensland in a few weeks,” said Mr Rowland.
Adam’s Team mates are from Wee Waa and Manilla so practice for the events as a team is challenging and is usually done while they are away competing together.
Tent Pegging Events continue tomorrow at White Park, Gurnsey Street, Scone from 8am to 4pm.
