Knights Visit Local Children
KNIGHTS Mickey Paea, Luke Yates, Matt Soper-Lawyler, Jack Stockwell and Lachlan Fitzgibbon visited schools across the Upper Hunter and finished their day at Scone Park for a practice session with local children.
Their stops included Aberdeen Public School, St Joseph’s High School Aberdeen, Scone Grammar School, St Mary’s Primary School and Scone High School.
The day began with Matt Soper-Lawyler arriving early at Aberdeen Primary School, where he sat down at a table of children having morning tea before the Knights presentation.
Matt said he enjoyed the opportunity to meet the children and remembers when Knights came to his school.
“It’s an awesome experience, the kids absolutely love it, seeing people who have played in their local comp around here and from the country themselves become Knights and that it is possible for them,” said Mr Soper-Lawyler.
“I remember players visiting when I was a school kid and it was probably the most memorable days and it’s good to giveback to something I used to enjoy,” he said.
“There’s nothing better than a kid saying you’re their favourite player, they would say that to all the players,” he laughed.
Mickey Paea and Luke Yates said they enjoyed coming up to visit children in the Upper Hunter because it reminded them of playing with his friends at the same age.
Local children asked some good questions, including:
Who is the most important player?
Luke: Everyone is an important player.
How much can you bench?
Mickey: It was a long time ago but 180kg three times.
Luke: not as much as Mickey, 140kg.
How much do you weigh?
Mickey: 105kg but I have lost a few kilos in the pre-season.
Luke: 94kg, but I have lost 3 kilos after working hard.
