King of the Ranges Returns
MURRURUNDI’s King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge and Bush Festival is set to return next year on September 24, COVID-19 permitting.
Earl Kelaher, President of King of the Ranges President said the committee decided to postpone the annual February event to September 2021, due to COVID-19.
“We had an AGM, very quietly and we decided it was a major thing we had to do,” Mr Kelaher said.
“To organise the King of the Ranges, you really can’t do it over a month or two months, you want twelve or 18 months to organise,” he said.
“If the virus and the government allows us, we decided we will run it over two days instead of three, to make it more cost-effective,” he said.
“We’ll work it [the program] out,” Mr Kelaher said.
Mr Kelaher said the decision didn’t come easy, as they have never cancelled or postponed the event throughout it’s 18-year life span.
“We’ve got time to give the sponsors time to recover from the drought as well as the virus,”
“It gives everyone time to breath,”
Mr Kelaher said the committee is hoping by September next year, COVID-19 restrictions will allow them to continue conducting an open event.
“This area is just absolutely choc-a-blocker at the King of the Ranges,” Mr Kelaher said.
“You’ve got a job to walk through here and let’s face it, they wouldn’t allow that,” he said.
“So long as [the canteen upgrades]are finished by next September,” he said.
Ticket information for the event will be available on the King of the Ranges website as soon as details are finalised.
