Golden Guitar Winner Inspiring Songs in Scone
NINE time Golden Guitar winner Luke O’Shea, will be holding a two day music workshop at St Mary’s Primary School Scone this week, culminating in a concert on Friday night.
While Luke is a renowned singer and songwriter, he has also had a career as a teacher and loves the opportunity to inspire a new generation of songwriters.
“A song is the quickest way to connect with another human on the planet, within three minutes you can make a total stranger laugh, cry, reflect and that’s the magic of a song and that’s why the craft of songwriting is so fascinating to me and to so many people out there,” said Luke O’Shea.
“When you get the chance to do that with kids in primary school and high school and they can use do that work on paper and then put it to melody that’s a great inspiration to share and something I love doing,” he said.
“My song The Drover’s Wife, which won me my first Golden Guitar back in 2013 is now in the Year 12 two unit English curriculum in Victoria and New South Wales,” he said.
“It’s in the curriculum for appropriation, where you use someone else’s work to inspire your own,” he said.
Luke said that the source of inspiration for songwriting can be found everywhere and he is looking forward to meeting the children and people of Scone.
“Inspiration for songs can come from anywhere, a conversation with your family, a sports star, history or geography, a good story may be just around the corner or one conversation away,” said Luke.
“It’s a part of the world that is important to me and I find that part of the world inspiring and the people up there are naturally a joy to be around familiar faces and new faces,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to the night, meeting the people of Scone and hopefully being inspired by the children and hopefully inspire them about the beauty of song writing and singing about this country of ours,” Luke O’Shea said.
