In the Pink on Friday

Filed in Just In by March 17, 2020

SCHOOLS, businesses and community groups are encouraged to wear something pink on Friday in solidarity against bullying.

Mary Spora, youth services coordinator for the Upper Hunter Shire Council, said the event started in the United States in 2007.

“When two students witnessed another student being bullied simply because he was wearing a pink shirt, those two students decided to take a stand. They went out and bought pink shirts for themselves and other students at the school to wear to show their support for the boy who was being bullied that day,” Ms Spora said.

“Whether it be a wrist band, hat, socks, or a ribbon in your hair. It will all have the same outcome; helping to make a difference in our community,” Mary Spora said.
