Hotter Days Ahead
THIS week the temperatures in Scone will be in the high 30’s to low 40’s and the Bureau of Meteorology say there is no relief in sight due to a large hot air mass which won’t budge.
“There is a high pressure sitting in the southern Tasman Sea and it is bringing down lots of heat from central Australia and the changes moving up the coast are fairly shallow and short lived so there is not much relief out of it,” said Neil, meteorologist with the Bureau of Meteorology.
“The hot air mass has been around for quite a long time now and nothing is shifting it,” he said.
“Monday will be 40, 39 on Tuesday, 40 on Wednesday, a little respite on Thursday 34 before a change comes in, but it is a very brief change and back to 40 on Friday,” he said.
“Saturday will be a little cooler Sunday will be in the low 30’s then at this stage Monday looks like heading back up again into the mid 30’s, so there is no real break from it all,” he said.
“The only good news is we might start to see some thunderstorms and showers which will cool things down a little nit but could also make it more muggy and humid, possibly on Wednesday and more likely on Thursday, Friday and even into Saturday,” he said.
“Further west of the Range they are expecting higher temperatures, including Gunnedah which will reach the mid 40’s,” Neil said.
