Helping Everyone Stay Warm
KEEPING warm is challenging for people in our community who are homeless, or for people struggling to make ends meet and can not afford proper heating.
The Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre and the Upper Hunter Homeless Service have joined forces to help and encourage others in the community to show their support by donating blankets and cloths and attending a BBQ.
Mrs Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre said many people in our community need some support.
“Homlessness is a real issue at any time of the year, but can you imagine sleeping out in winter?” she said.
“Unfortunately people are experiencing this right now,” she said.
“This is not the choice of the person, it is often through a series of misfortunes that have put them in that position.
“While most of us are fortunate enough to enjoy a warm house, there are individuals and families struggling to keep warm or fed.
“There are homeless people sleeping in our parks or living in their cars and it is these people we try to support through our services.
“Tenants make up a high percentage of our community and Upper Hunter Homeless service may be able to assist tenants with tenancy questions about maintenance or leases.
“All the community are invited to have a chat or if you would like to donate a warm blanket or non perishable food items they will be appreciated,” she said.
“There will be new hand knitted beanies and jumpers that have been donated and dignity bags distributed on the day,” Lee Watts said.
BBQ: 11am, Friday, August5 at the Scone Neighbourhood Resrouce Centre, 130 Liverpool Street, Scone.
