Help Firies Get Ready
LOCAL Rural Fire Services are reaching out to the local community this weekend in an effort to educate people about the fire season ahead and hopefully get more volunteers on board.
This fire season is expected to be one of the hardest with some of the driest conditions faced in living memory and many farmers unable to volunteer due to pressures on the farm during the drought.
Jayden Hollis, deputy captain of the Kayuga Rural Bush Fire Service said they anticipate it will be a harsh season and want to educate as many people as possible.
“We are out this weekend so that people will come out and have a chat to us about the fire season and help people be prepared,” said Mr Hollis.
“Judging by the weather it is going to be a pretty harsh season with the fuel that is left,” he said.
Areas such as Manobalai, Rossgole, Towarri and steep back country around the district are of particular concern this season, where there is still plenty of dry fuel on the ground.
As part of the “Get Ready” weekend local Rural Bush Fire Services will be out in the community including:
- Kingdon Ponds Rural Fire Service – Elizabeth Park – Saturday 9am-12pm
- Kayuga Rural Bush Fire Services – Coles Complex in Muswellbrook – Saturday 8am-12pm.
