Have You Had Your Mammogram?

Filed in Recent News by August 7, 2017

THE mobile breast screen unit is in Scone until next Wednesday offering free mammograms to women between the age of 50 and 74.

One in eight women are affected by breast cancer in New South Wales, even with a lack of a family history of breast cancer, so it is recommended that women have a mammogram every two years.

Jess Kesby, marketing and recruitment manager for Breast Screen NSW said women in the Upper Hunter should take advantage of the free screening.

“Nine out of ten women diagnosed with breast cancer don’t actually have a family history,” Jess Kesby said.

“There are a lot of  women out there who are not being screened or having breast checks regularly, so we try and make our mobile screening unit available in as many places as possible so that all women over the age of 50 have access to a free screening mammogram,” she said.

“We come around most places every twelve months, all women are encouraged to have a mammogram every two years so we time it at the same time at most locations every year so that women can have their bi-annual check up.

“We still have lots of appointments available on Monday and Tuesday so if there is anyone who has been putting it off or doesn’t know that they are eligible for a free screening mammogram, they should come along and book an appointment.

“The appointments are free and it only takes twenty minutes, it is best to book an appointment by calling 13 20 50,” said Jess Kesby.

The Unit has already been to Murrurundi and Merriwa in May this year so will return May 2018.

The Unit is at the Scone Senior Citizen Centre on the corner of Liverpool Street and Cooper Street, to make an appointment call Breastscreen NSW on 13 20 50.
