Gummun Still Under Commission Cloud
TODAY, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission confirmed Gummun Place is still under an accreditation cloud.
Council, the current operators of Gummun Place, passed a motion on Tuesday night to investigate options for future management of the facility.
Typically, facilities are accredited for three years after assessment, but due to the number and nature of compliance issues found in June, the facility was only accredited for one year, with the Council given an order of non-compliance and timetable for improvement.
However, during the next inspection the facility failed seven standards and the non-compliance has been extended until March, explained Janet Anderson, Commissioner for Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
“The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission conducted a site audit at Gummun Place in Merriwa on 19-20 June 2019 and the service was found not to meet 19 of the 44 expected outcomes under the Accreditation Standards; the new Aged Care Quality Standards came into effect from 1 July 2019,” said Ms Janet Anderson.
“The service was re-accredited for a period of one year, with an expiry date of 12 September 2020 and was placed on a timetable for improvement,” she said.
“As a result of the non-compliance, the Department of Health issued a Non-Compliance Notice to the approved provider for its failure to meet the Accreditation Standards.
“From 31 October to 1 November 2019, the Commission undertook a monitoring visit at the service and found the service did not meet 7 of the 42 requirements of the new Aged Care Quality Standards.
“Based on this, the Department of Health made the decision to extend the Notice of Non-compliance until 2 March 2020.
“The Commission continues to monitor the service closely as the service works to return to compliance.
“On 1 January 2020, compliance functions, including the issuing of Non-Compliance Notices, that were previously the responsibility of the Department of Health transferred to the Commission,” she said.
“If anyone has a concern about an aged care service, they should contact the Commission on 1800 951 822,” said Ms Janet Anderson.
