Great Night for Small Club
ORGANISERS of the Scone Junior Thoroughbreds’ fundraiser last night said the support of local businesses and the generosity of more than 100 people who attended will help keep the Club affordable for local children who want to play rugby league.
“Local businesses were really generous at a time when many of them are finding it difficult; there were 18 silent auction prizes, four lucky door prizes and 25 donations for the raffle, which is a great effort for a small town,” said Brooke McInerney.
“We were so pleased that so many people came out last night to support our young local players,” she said.
“It will help us keep registration affordable; the Club contributes money towards registration to help make it more affordable and we also give each child a free pair of shorts and socks,” she said.
“We are also aiming to buy a zero turn mower; at the moment Glen Purnell and Grant Mackay spend many hours looking after the ground each week and are currently mowing with a push mower,” she said.
“When we have travelled away to some grounds in Sydney we’ve been surprised at the state of the grounds with bindies and kangaroo poo on the ground, so you then really appreciate how much work Glen and Grant do to make the ground as good as they can,” Ms McInerney said.
