Goal Posts Moved on Phillip Street Rezoning
UPPER Hunter Shire Council were considering an application to rezone three residential blocks in Phillip Street, to light industrial, however the goal posts have shifted and on Tuesday Council’s Development and Environment Committee will now consider rezoning to mixed business.
Community members who want to speak about the potential rezoning on Tuesday, need to register with Council on Monday by completing and emailing a request.
Residents of Phillip Street have said they believe it is just another way to push through the same problems with rezoning under another name.
Burton’s, the owners of Scone’s industrial area have previously said if the Council rezones they would consider taking Council to the Land and Environment Court and since the change in proposal have confirmed they are still speaking with their lawyers. Read: Burton’s Weigh in on Rezoning.
They further explained many of the businesses suitable for mixed business use zoning are still suitable on industrially zoned land such as office premises, hardware stores, garden centres and only a few uses would not be allowed, such as childcare.
