Funding for Community Groups
LOCAL organisations can now apply for a cultural activity grant from the Upper Hunter Shire Council.
The grants are to support non-profit community based organisations to develop cultural and art resources and activities.
Last year 23 projects received a total of $13,000 including:
- Merriwa RSL Sub Branch for seating overlooking the Remembrance Garden;
- popular Founders Day Celebration for the 1st Scone Scouts Group;
- Aberdeen Junior Cricket Club 60th anniversary celebration;
- indigenous performances and workshops for Aberdeen Preschool and Murrurundi Public School;
- musical instruments for the St Joseph’s School Pipe Band;
- brochures for Murrurundi Rotary Club to promote the Great Northern Railway Memorial;
- Cassilis Guild Hall and Main St Museum to create a self-guided walk brochure;
- lockable storage for the Merriwa Branch of Country Women’s Association and
- contributions towards popular festivals included the Aberdeen Highland Games, King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge and Bush Festival, the Scone Literary Long Weekend, and the Scone and Upper Hunter Horse Festival.
The guidelines and applications forms are available on Council’s website and must be submitted by September 7.
