Framing Up for Friday’s Opening
ROGER Skinner has been busy framing for Friday’s opening of the photographic competition in Scone.
Roger Skinner who will judge the competition said he was pleased with the quality of the entries.
“There are some really nice entries this year and next year we will be aiming to grow the competition further,” said Mr Skinner.
“I’d encourage people with an interest in photography to visit the exhibition and hopefully it prompts them to enter next year,” he said.
Roger began photography in 1963 and while he didn’t enter his first photographic competition for 10 years he says it is the best way for photographers to learn.
“Look at other people’s work, have a library of photographic books, constantly look at images and as the famous Russian photographer Alexandr Rodchenko said, ‘photograph and be photographed’,” Roger Skinner said.
Members exhibition
The Scone photographic competition is part of the Scone Arts and Crafts members exhibition, which has more than 400 works of paintings, sculpture, craft, knitting, weaving and poetry created from members throughout New South Wales.
Pam Saunderson-McLeay, vice-president Scone Arts and Crafts, said there are some great works on display this year, most of which are for sale.
“There are some really fantastic paintings, some great sculptures,” said Ms Saunderson-McLeay.
“Nigel Neckland has entered some pieces and Harry Fascher who recently held the women’s welding workshop has also contributed some works,” she said.
“This year we will also have art suppliers in the garden doing demonstrations and selling supplies,” she said.
“And of course we will be running the alfresco cafe this Saturday,” Pam Saunderson-McLeay said.
Opening night is Friday at 6pm and entry is $10. The exhibition will run from May 7 until May 14 between 10am and 4pm each day. On May 15 the exhibition will be open between 10am and 1pm.
