Exemptions for weddings and funerals
MEMBER for Upper Hunter David Layzell has advised there has been a public health order issued to allow some flexibility for planned weddings and funerals during the seven day Hunter lock down.
Mr Layzell MP explained the temporary exemption will allow weddings and funerals to take place in the Newcastle and Hunter region until the beginning of August 8, including holding the events at venues such as pubs, clubs and places of worship.
“After that (August 8), and until the lifting of restrictions, weddings will not be permitted and funerals will be limited to 10 mourners,” said Mr Layzell.
Lee Watts, celebrant, said it will be a welcome relief for many people.
“People have put so much effort into their planning of their weddings and for some couples this is the third time they have had to post-pone, which is really affecting them mentally and financially,” said Ms Watts.
“Earlier today I was cancelling weddings and funerals, but this evening I’ve been able to phone back and people are relieved they can go ahead with their plans, until Sunday the 8th,” Lee Watts said.
