Excited to Represent NSW
KY McGrath was excited to learn yesterday that he had been selected to represent New South Wales in the under 16’s AFL team at Maroochydore at the end of July.
His mum Lisa McGrath said Ky called her from Albury where he has been playing in the All School Championships with fellow Scone team mates Sam Heaton and Riley Warner.
“He called and just said ‘mum I made the team’, he was understated but I knew how incredibly excited he was,” said Ms McGrath.
“I was at work and started jumping up and down screaming, they thought I had won the lotto, but I think this is just as good,” she laughed.
“Ky started playing for the Muswellbrook Cats in the under 11’s, they are a really awesome club and there has been no looking back since,” she said.
“He has been part of the Sydney Swans academy since he was in the under 11’s and he has put a lot of work in, he is a humble kid and keeps a pretty low profile, but he has been travelling to Newcastle every Monday for skills training and then to Sydney every Wednesday for squad training,” Lisa McGrath said.
Next steps for Ky include continuing to play at a club level with the Muswellbrook Cats, traveling to Canberra to practice for the state representative team and aiming to be part of the Sydney Swans Academy under 16’s team.
He will play in Maroochydore during the week of Saturday, July 23 to Saturday, July 30.
