NSW Government Ease Restrictions And Plan Fireworks
THIS morning the New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian eased some COVID-19 restrictions, including changes to community sports, weddings and schools.
Bridal parties of no more than 20 will be allowed on the dancefloor at weddings and people are now allowed to sing in churches.
School sports will return in term four and more than one parent can attend children’s sports games at community venues, as long as social distancing can be maintained.
Inter-school and zone competitions will open again and school music ensembles will have an unlimited participation capacity if students remain 1.5 metres apart.
School camps, excursions and year six formals will also return in term four, with COVID-safe plans.
Restriction changes
- Bridal parties of no more than 20 people can dance at weddings;
- No restrictions spectators at community sporting events;
- Inter-school and zone sporting competitions recommence;
- School camps and excursions recommence;
- School choirs can gather with a maximum of five students;
- School music ensembles with an unlimited number of people recommence;
- On campus school programs with parents including reading groups;
- Year six formals and celebrations recommence;
- Kindergarten and Year 7 orientations recommence.
Premier Berejiklian said the NSW government has plans for a very short fireworks display on New Years Eve, which will act as a symbol of hope and a “thank you to all of the front line workers,” after a difficult year.
“It will not be like any other new years eve we’ve had, the vast majority of us will be watching it at home,” the Premier said.
“None of us want to see the large crows, none of us want to see breaching of the health orders,” she said.
“I certainly don’t want all of our good work, literally go down the gurgler because of one event where people haven’t done the right thing,” she said.
“It will be an extremely different event…very cautious,” said the Premier.
