Drumming Up Delicious Celebration
“It is that time of year again to celebrate Australia’s diversity and respect for everyone who calls Australia home, from the traditional owners to those who have come from many countries around the world,” said Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre.
“There are many ways to celebrate our diversity either through sport, art, dance, story-telling or sharing cultural meals,” she said.
To celebrate Harmony Day the Scone Neighbourhood Centre and the Scone Library will host the “World of Food”, an opportunity for the community to enjoy a range of cuisine prepared by local people from a range of different cultural backgrounds. be celebrating Harmony Day on Tuesday 20th March from 6:00 pm by hosting a “World of Food” at the Scone Grammar School.
“Those in attendance will also have an opportunity to be a part of the entertainment in the interactive session of Taiko Japanese drumming,” said Mrs Watts.
“Last year’s very successful evening was attended by many people from a wide variety of backgrounds to share many mouth-watering dishes prepared and shared at the event,” she said.
“Everyone is welcome to attend and encouraged to bring a dish that reflects their background and culture – dressing up in national costumes is also encouraged to add to the occasion.
“What better way to meet new people, to share experiences and get to know your neighbours than by sharing food? I was really impressed by the number of people who joined in with our Harmony Day feast last year and hope that many more can come this year,” Lee Watts said.
