Drumming Up a Storm

Filed in Recent News by March 24, 2017

JAPANESE taiko drums were beating in Scone on Tuesday night at the multi-cultural dinner and tonight they will again at the Kia Ora music camp concert.

Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Centre said the drums were a highlight at the dinner, with the audience trying their hand at some interactive drumming under the guidance of Kiyomi Calwell.

“The food is always delicious and it’s great to see how diverse our community really is,” Mrs Watts said.

“But the drumming really was the highlight, it is great for young and old alike to do something different,” she said.

“It took us a while to get in the rhythm, but by the end of the night we were definitely sounding better,” laughed Lee Watts.
