TODAY double demerit points come into effect until January 2, in a bid to slow down drivers and reduce the road toll during the holiday season.
The Roads and Maritime Services has suspended all major roadworks until January 7 and also on Australia Day to reduce delays for drivers.
Drivers are encouraged to allow plenty of time to get to their destination.
High traffic volumes are expected to cause congestion on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Warnervale and between Beresfield and the Hexham Bridge and through the roundabout at Masonite Road, Heatherbrae.
